Our Governors

Governors of Redbridge Primary School (ID 1065)

Governance at Redbridge Primary

Redbridge Primary School’s Governing Body re-constituted on 1st July 2015 to comply with the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012.  We were very fortunate to keep all our established Governors during this reconstitution and again, when their terms ended on 1st July 2019.  The Chair also remained for another 4 year term when his ended in September 2020.  Keeping such skilled and experienced Governors contribute to our effective governance and success of our school.

The Governors supported the school in moving from RI (Requires Improvement) in April 2013 to Good in 2015.  The March 2019 Ofsted said the school continues to be Good.  The report commented on how our effective Governors are a strength of the school.

We have a body of nine governors who meet once every half term, with an extra meeting held in the Autumn term for Data Assessment.  Being a small school we tend not to have separate committees but work with a Referral Committee, consisting of the first three eligible governors approached if required.  We do have a staff Pay and Pay Appeals committee.

Governors are invited to accompany the Leadership Team on monitoring activities throughout the school during the year; they attend specific meetings based on their allocated responsibility and attend a Governor’s Day at the end of the Summer Term meeting the children in class and at lunch.

The role of Governors include:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
  • To help the school set high standards by planning for the school’s future and setting targets for school improvement.
  • Be a critical friend to the school, offering support and advice.
  • Help the school respond to the needs of parents and the community.
  • Make the school accountable to the public for what it does.
  • Work with the school on planning, developing policies and keeping the school under review.
  • Not to intervene in the day-to-day management of the school unless there are weaknesses in the school, when it then has a duty to take action.
  • Our Governors do not sit on any other Governing Bodies.

“Governors have high expectations for the education of pupils at Redbridge.  They bring a wide range of professional skills which contribute to the level of challenge and support they provide to leaders”.   Ofsted March 2019
